What Is The Panda Algorithm?

The Panda algorithm is 1 of many updates which have been carried out on Google to combat against ‘spammy’ websites. This change was brought about in order to lower the rank of the lower quality sites which contained thin & duplicate content, which in turn would allow the higher quality sites to rank better. When this update was first carried out there was a mass surge in website rankings, especially for those sites which have a large amount of advertising. According to many sources out there, around 12% percent of all search results were affected by this update.

When Was The Panda Algorithm Released?

This algorithm was first released back in February of 2011, however many revisions of this algorithm have occurred over the years since its first release. There have been around 26 updates to the Panda algorithm in total since the initial launch.

What Makes A Website Vulnerable To Google Panda?

Panda is an algorithm which was released to combat low quality websites which are against the search quality guidelines that Google follows by. There are many deciding factors which make your website vulnerable to the algorithm; some of these are as follows:

  • A small amount of original content found on the website
  • Low visit times on a website’s page or the website as a whole.
  • A high percent of duplicate content on a website, whether it be certain pages or the website as a whole
  • A high bounce rate on a website or a websites page
  • A high percentage of pages with low original content
  • Websites which have high amounts of irrelevant adverts
  • An unnatural overuse of certain words on a website
  • Page content and title tags which do not match the searches for your website

Since this update has been released there have many theories and strategies on how to combat this algorithm; however, up until very recently, there hasn’t been much success for many people.
